“The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”
God is limitlessly perfect in all of His ways. Only He is infinite, incomprehensible, self-sufficient, eternal, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, sovereign, and the list goes on. We search for human language to describe God, but we fall short as we try to describe the indescribable. Of all God’s immeasurable characteristics, His love is most prominent.
Just as God cannot be measured, love cannot be measured, because God is love (1 John 4:8). The living Word of God is drenched in His love. From the curse of man to his security in the cross of Jesus Christ, the revelation of God’s love is made known. Jesus Christ is the ultimate expression of God’s love and this immeasurable, infinite love has saved you to the uttermost.
“By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us.” 1 John 3:16
We have seen faithful love in Jesus Christ. We see the depth of God’s love for us as our eyes are opened to the natural human condition: powerless, ungodly, and sinners (Romans 5:6-8). Not only are all people unable to please God, we are in rebellion against Him and this is worthy of His wrath and rejection. But God, so great in love for His sinful and unworthy people, took on human form and died to bring His people back to Himself. He overcame the separation that was our reality by reconciling us to Him through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son.
Our communion with God begins and ends with Jesus Christ, in whom we have forgiveness and are adopted into God’s family. This is true and faithful love. And heed this well: There is absolutely nothing that can separate God’s people from His love. “Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). God loves us in Christ, therefore He loves us forever.
“Beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.” Jude 20-21
So I encourage you: keep yourselves in the love of God that the idols of your heart might depart. As we see the love of God, our hearts will overflow with godly affection toward Him. And as we believe the love of God, we will delight in Him and all of His ways, walking in joy and in faith. So I urge you: Don’t forget. God loves you.
