I realized I had a good bit of followers that I don’t know and that probably don’t know much about me besides my (usually lengthy) Instagram captions. So, I thought I’d share some things about me in hopes of connecting more with you!
If you don’t already know, my name is Brooke Hart. With much joy and wrestling, I am a believer who lives for the glory of God. I’m married to a wonderful, God fearing man, Nicklaus. Apparently only me and his mother call him Nicklaus, so you can call him Nick. We are both from Elkins, WV and currently live in Fairmont, WV. I am a barista at the oh-so-wonderful coffee shop, Joe N Throw. If you’re ever in WV and need a tasty cup of coffee or a craft beer, stop in! It really is a fun experience. Nick works at the Union Mission which is a shelter/rehabilitation home. We both have jobs interacting with people and it’s ironic because we both love to be alone… but the Lord wills it not.
We ended up here because of school, but I withdrew in my third year (I’m indecisive) and Nick graduated in December. I am entertaining the idea of going back to school to pursue a degree in Dietetics. I am passionate about eating disorders and the anti-diet movement so I would specialize in that area! I will definitely be sharing my journey with an eating disorder at some point, but that is what has shaped my interest in that field. I’m looking at Kansas Sate University online, but let me know if you have any recommendations.
Recently, we have had several doors open up to us and it has been difficult discerning the Lord’s will but with each step forward (and backwards) we become more confident. As we get more clarity, I will share what it is. Our lease is up this month and we will be moving in with my dad until all the logistics are in place for our next move.
Let’s move on to things I enjoy and what my days are spent doing! Like I said, I work at the coffee shop so some of my days are spent doing that. Whatever my plans are, I (almost) always start my day with a cup of coffee and scripture. We’re early birds so we’re up around 5 or 6. This is a precious time for me so it’s a non-negotiable part of my morning routine. After this, I move on to either moving my body in some way, getting ready for work, or doing some chores.
I haven’t had a gym membership in a good while. I’ve been working out at home and I love it. I do FitnessBlender and other youtube videos, yoga, walks, and the occasional run. I am absolutely still working on my relationship with food and exercise. The Lord is good and disciplines me. By his Spirit he is teaching me to glorify him in all things, including how I do those things. When it comes to food, I allow all things. I do not diet. I do no partake in diet talk. I try to have variety and challenge myself to new things. It is such a process after living in the diet and restriction mentality for so long! I have a major sweet tooth and I am a huge fan of french fries, steamed veggies, and oatmeal.
I do a good bit of reading. I read a variety of things. I am usually reading a Christian book and I really enjoy fiction! I just finished the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers and it is my all time favorite series. It was a beautiful picture of the destruction of Jerusalem, the persistent faith of believers, and the faithfulness of God. If you’re looking for a good read, it is incredible. I’m currently reading a book called White Awake by Daniel Hill as well as the book Intuitive Eating. Along with reading I love music! Listening to it, playing it (piano, ukulele, pencil drums), singing it, I am all about it! I serve on the worship team and it brings me a lot of joy.
The last thing I’ll share is that I enjoy spending time in the kitchen, baking and cooking! I plan on sharing recipes with you all. I’m also thinking about sharing a day in the life, weekend recaps, full days of eating, and meaningful, gospel centered blogs. If there’s anything else you’d like to see, let me know in the comments! I had fun sharing this little bit of my life with you. Have a good week!
